Supporting Youth and Education within the SSVEC Service Area
The Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative Foundation was established in 1984. It is dedicated to promoting educational initiatives that empower teachers and youth from elementary school through college. We strive to create opportunities for students and teachers within the SSVEC service area to excel through our key educational programs.

Am I Paying Extra for My Electricity to Fund These Programs?
The short answer is "No." Funding for our Foundation Youth Programs does not come from utility payments or fees.
The Not-For-Profit Cooperative Difference
SSVEC is a not-for-profit electric cooperative. As a not-for-profit utility company, we return margins (money earned in excess of expenses) to its members—those who use its electric service.
For the Benefit of the Communities We Serve
There is lag time between when margins are entered on the books and when they are returned to members. SSVEC follows legal guidelines, and its own bylaws, to find and return these margins (called Membership Equity) to the members owed.
Unclaimed Membership Equity & The Foundation
Sometimes, return of Membership Equity isn't possible because the member cannot be located. If the member cannot be located after numerous attempts, their Membership Equity is transferred to the SSVEC Foundation to benefit SSVEC communities.
Private Donations
The SSVEC Foundation is also funded by cash donations from businesses and private citizens. Some members also choose to voluntarily donate their Membership Equity to the SSVEC Foundation to support youth programs.
